Oil Paintings

Marietta’s goal in painting is to express emotions with colors, textures, line and contrast of form and light. She tries to distill the spirit of a place or a fleeting moment in time, and to capture the essence in oil paint on canvas.

Pastels

Marietta enjoys pastels because the stick pigments allow more of a sketch like quality to the picture plane. It's immediate, no blending, mixing or over glazes. Pastels will often become a preliminary for a larger oil painting, but not always. The only downside is the powdery mess!

I like to find an emotion in a place, person, or thing; something that needs to come out. I often use the world around me as a catalyst, because it’s ever changing and fleeting. I like to think I’ve held on to one instant, maybe just a blink, and captured that essence.” -Marietta Harrigan
